DOMESTIC MANUFACTURERS:

BIS offered Indian Manufacturers to get the BIS license by two methods:

1. Normal Method
2. Simplified Method

A. Normal Procedure

1. Manufacturers need to check applicable standard for the product.
2. They should have all Testing facility, Machinery and Equipment available in the factory.
3. As per scheme-I factory is required to submit the application by the by the gateway of BIS Manak online portal.
4. BIS verifies the documents and details by factory inspection and sends the samples submitted by the factory to a third-party laboratory sealed by BIS for verification.
5. After ensuring and verifying the details BIS granted the BIS license to the manufacturers.

B. Simplified Procedure

1. Manufacturers need to check applicable standard for the product.
2. They should have all Testing facility, Machinery and Equipment available in the factory.
3. As per Scheme- I simplified procedure Manufactures’ is required to send their samples as per grouping guidelines mentioned in product manual of Indian standard to BIS approved 3rd party lab for independent testing of their product as per the applicable standard.
4. The submission of online application by the gateway of BIS Manak online portal.
5. BIS check and provide the feedback and appoint the BIS auditor.
6. Audit by BIS officials and verifying all details, testing and Sample drawn for independent testing.
7. BIS granted the license after sending the samples to the 3rd party lab for the verifying test report.

BIS has some strict rules for the foreign manufacturers:

3. As per scheme-I factory is required to prepare the application and all documents.
4. Manufacturers is required to appoint an AIR (Authorized India Representative) for the BIS communication and further activities on Behalf of factory.
5. AIR required to submit application by visiting the BIS.
6. BIS verifies the documents and appoint the Auditor for the factory inspection.
7. Factory is required to liable for the manage the expense for the BIS visit.
8. Auditor /BIS officer verifies all details and testing submitted by the factory and send samples to India for verify the testing.
9. After ensuring and verifying the details BIS granted the BIS license to the manufacturers.

Factory must submit 18 types of documents to BIS, for example: -

HOW DO I GET BIS ISI CERTIFICATION

Any manufacturer whose turnover is more than Rs 20 lakh can apply for BIS ISI certificate using BIS guidelines and procedure.
