Electronic waste or E-WASTE is a term for electronic products that have become non-functional, undesired, or unusable and have essentially reached the end of their useful life.
Electronic waste is not just waste it also contains some very toxic substance such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic etc. The toxic materials in electronics can cause Cancer, Reproductive disorder and many other health problems if this waste is not managed properly.
The E-waste (Management) Amendment Rules, 2017, were published by the Government of India in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change vide number G.S.R. 1349(E), dated 30 October, 2017 in the Gazette of India.
The E-waste (Management) Rules, 2016 were issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in response to the E-waste generated in India by various producers of these wastes such as manufacturers, producers, consumers, bulk consumers, collection centers, dealers, e-retailers, refurbishes, dismantlers, and recyclers involved in the manufacture, sale, transfer, purchase, collection, storage, and processing of e-waste or electrical and electronic equipment listed in Section 2 of the Electric Equipment.
According to these guidelines, any manufacturer of electrical or electronic equipment is responsible for channeling e-waste and ensuring environmentally appropriate waste treatment.
EPR is an acronym that stands for "Extended Producer's Responsibility." For E-waste management, an EPR Certificate is required for Indian manufacturers and importers of products. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which is part of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), grants EPR authorization. With EPR India approval, the maker / importer of electronic and electrical products is responsible for controlling E-waste generated by the products after their lifetime has expired
Every producer of electrical and electronic equipment listed in Schedule I must submit an application for Extended Producer Responsibility - Authorization in Form-1 to the Central Pollution Control Board within ninety days of these rules coming into force;
